Johnny Manziel has been working on his pro football comeback for some time now, and according to Brent Zwerneman, that could be any day now

According to TSN in Canada, Manziel worked out with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the end of August. The Tiger-Cats opted not to sign the former Heisman winner, with the report stating that Manziel still had “too many red flags” in order for him to be signed.

From TSN:

“The answer to those questions was a resounding no, according to sources. Among other concerns, the Ticats were not convinced Manziel is in in game shape or that his off-field regiment is consistent with that of someone dedicated to professional football.”

Although the TSN report mentions that the Tiger-Cats will remain in contact with Manziel, that last sentence is a pretty damning indictment for Manziel, who was taken by the Browns with he 22nd overall pick by the Cleveland Browns back in 2014. The Tiger-Cats are currently the worst team in the CFL with a 2-8 record, and the club recently hired former Atlanta Falcons and Hawaii coach June Jones as their new head coach.

Manziel has not played pro football since the 2015 season, as the Browns released him back in March of last year after growing conerns over Manziel’s mental health. Since that release, Manziel was indicted for assault charges, fired by his agent, and suspended by the NFL under its drug policy. Manziel’s fall comes after he became the first redshirt freshman to win the Heisman Trophy back in 2012.
