South Alabama has been looking for a new head coach since Joey Jones resigned in late November and it looks like the school has announced his replacement. They are bringing in Steve Campbell from FCS school Central Arkansas who will become the team’s second coach ever.

Campbell reached the second round of the FCS playoffs the last two seasons and won his team’s conference this season. He has a 33-15 record at Central Arkansas and 59-23 overall record from his three years from 1999 to 2001 at Delta State. He won a Division-II National Championship there with a no-huddle offense that broke 12 Gulf South Conference Records and six NCAA Division II records at the time.

Campbell was a graduate assistant at Auburn as well as the offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee and the offensive line coach at Mississippi State for a year. He was then the head coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College from 2004 to 2013 before taking over at Central Arkansas.
